Couchy is operated by Carat International LLC. Throughout this policy, we and us mean Carat International LLC, which is the company responsible for the information described below.
Your library stays on your device. An account exists so friends can find you and chat along with you. One optional setting, off unless you turn it on, shares the single thing you are watching right now with your friends. We do not sell anything about you, and there is no advertising or third party analytics in this app.
This is a setting, it starts OFF, and nothing below happens until you switch it on in Settings.
While it is on, and only while it is on, we store one row for you: the show or film you are on, the episode, its artwork, and the chat party room if you are in one. It is overwritten every time you start something else, so it is always one line and never a history. There is no way for us or for anyone else to ask it what you watched yesterday, because it does not remember.
Only people you have accepted as friends can see it. It stops being shown to anyone three hours after the last update, so a phone that was switched off mid film does not leave you watching something forever.
Turning the setting off deletes that row immediately. It does not merely stop new ones. Deleting your account deletes it too, along with everything else attached to you.
Your library, which shows you track, what you have marked watched, your likes and loves, and your reminders. These are held on the device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced to your own Apple account. We cannot see any of it.
Your chosen name, your display name, your email address, which is required, and your password stored only as a salted hash which cannot be reversed. Your friends and friend requests. Chat party invites, including the title of the show invited to. Messages and reactions sent in a chat party, keeping only the most recent 200 in a room. A device token if you turn on push notifications, used solely to tell you an invite arrived.
Couchy has a social side, so some things are visible to others by design and it is worth being exact about which.
Anyone signed in can find you by the display name you chose, unless you turn discovery off in Settings. Your display name and your chosen avatar are visible to anyone who finds you or is in a room with you. Your friends can see that you are their friend. Anyone in a chat party with you can see your name, your avatar, and everything you send in that room.
Only your accepted friends can see what you are watching, and only if you switched that on. Nobody can see your library, your history, your ratings, your reminders or your email address. There is no public profile, no follower count and no feed.
A room keeps only its most recent 200 messages, and they are deleted with the room. We do not read them, we do not analyse them, and we do not use them to train anything. We will look at a specific message only when it is reported to us or where the law requires it, and only for as long as it takes to deal with that.
If you report somebody, we keep the report, the message it concerns and who sent it, for as long as we need it to act and to recognise repeat behaviour. If you are reported, we keep the same. These records survive the deletion of the room they came from, because a moderation record that vanishes with the evidence is useless.
Couchy is not for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, tell us at support@caratinternational.net and we will delete it.
Cloudflare hosts the service and its database, so accounts, friends, invites, chat party messages, blocks and reports sit on their infrastructure. Apple delivers push notifications, which means Apple holds a device token for your phone. Resend sends the one email we send, which is a password reset. Show and film information comes from TMDb, with streaming availability from JustWatch, and TheTVDB is used as a fallback when TMDb has no record. None of them are given your library or what you watch. We do not use analytics, advertising, or any tracking service, and we never sell anything about you.
We do not receive your library, your viewing history, your ratings, or what you are watching, unless you invite someone to a specific show, in which case we hold that title so the invite makes sense.
Reminders about new seasons and episodes are scheduled by your phone from dates already stored on it. Nothing about them is sent to us. Push notifications tell you that somebody has invited you to watch something, that a film you starred has arrived on a service, and occasionally that something has happened to a report you filed.
We request show information from a third party catalogue. Those requests carry the search or the show, never who you are. This product uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB.
Asking where a show can be watched sends the show and the country your phone is set to, and nothing about you. Where to watch data provided by JustWatch.
Account data is kept while your account exists. Sessions expire after 30 days. Chat party messages are kept to the most recent 200 in a room and go when the room ends.
Settings has Delete account. It asks for your password and then removes your name, your email, your password, your friends on both sides, every chat party invitation, anything you were sharing about what you are watching, and your blocked list. It happens immediately and cannot be undone.
Two things do not go. Your library lives on this phone and in your own iCloud, so it is yours and we cannot reach it either way. And reports other people have made about the account are kept, because deleting them with the account would make deleting your account the way to clear a record and start again.
You can also write to us and we will do it for you.
Couchy is not intended for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
